Satun is a small province in the Southern Thailand that is located along the coast of the Andaman Sea. It possesses almost 100 islands; some are the considered as the most beautiful islands of the Andaman Sea. Besides its picturesque islands, Satun also features some attractions about culture and local way of lives.Formerly being mostly overlooked, Satun is now increasingly well-known for its famous island, Koh Lipe.
The first marine national park of Thailand, widely recognized for its history and scenic beauty, Tarutao National Park is located on the Andaman Sea, about 40 kilometers away from the town of Satun and 22 kilometers off the shore of Pak Bara Pier. The park consists of 51 islands with 7 large islands; namely, Ko Tarutao, Ko Adang, Ko Rawi, Ko Lipe, Ko Klang, Ko Batong and Ko Bitsi. The best time for a visit is from November to May.
Situated in a long limestone mountain range, 4-kilometer-long winding Tham Lay Stegodon is a cave where fossils of elephant and rhinoceros of the Pleistocene period have been discovered. Taking a kayak is the only means to explore the cave. The staff and villagers accompany visitors while in the cave. Another set of clothing and a waterproof bag are recommended to take along. Adorned with amazing stalactites and stalagmites, Tham Phu Pha Phet is the biggest cave in Thailand. Inside the cave, there is a Roman-style room and a spacious floor in the central part of the cave. The highlight of this cave is a place called the Emerald Yard. The staff take visitors around the cave and flashlights are available for rent. (It is not recommended that those allergic to dust visit this cave.)
This is a limestone waterfall and the water pool of each level, from the top to the bottom is similar to a lotus. Around the waterfall, a variety of trees that makes the atmosphere pleasant and suitable for relaxation. Kayaking is a popular activity here. Located in Paknam Subdistrict, La-ngu District, this place is under the supervision of the Bo Jet Luk community commissioned by Petra Islands National Park. Visitors have to take a boat from Bo Jet Luk Pier or Pun Te Beach for about 15 minutes and then take a kayak to the castle. Visitors can contact a travel agent or Bo Jet Luk community for more information on this visit.
